Limitations of the MESMERIC Method

Like any structured approach, the MESMERIC method has limitations.

Sometimes, microdosing for addiction and the MESMERIC method are not effective — not in every stage, context, or for every person.

There are two broad scenarios in which the method is unsuitable:

When microdosing psilocybin is contraindicated:

There are situations in which microdosing psilocybin is not suitable, either overall or at a specific moment in time.

It is important to consider:

Behavioural patterns that render the MESMERIC method ineffective:

Getting results with MESMERIC depends on several conditions. The most important is the ability to apply it with reasonable consistency and determination.

The MESMERIC method — and microdosing psilocybin for addiction in general — cannot function as intended when any of the following occur:

Mixing microdosing with an addictive substance or behaviour

If you frequently use the addictive substance or engage in the addictive behaviour on the same day that you microdose, the method is unlikely to provide effective support.

Behaviour patterns that conflict with the method

The method relies on consistency and clear boundaries. It cannot work when the struggling person shows recurring patterns of:

  • failing to follow directions or structured guidance;
  • using microdosing to “boost” before or after engaging in substance use or behavioural addiction;
  • microdosing erratically or outside the schedule;
  • failing to stick to pre-agreed levels of use or addictive behaviour engagement;
  • failing to channel improvements obtained through microdosing psilocybin towards addiction recovery work;
  • using the method selectively to justify continued substance use or addictive behaviour.

Failures are a natural part of any addiction recovery journey, and the MESMERIC method includes mechanisms for handling them. However, if such behaviours repeat persistently or begin to define the overall pattern rather than remain occasional setbacks, it may signify that MESMERIC and microdosing for addiction are not the right tools for you at this time.

At this point, you have three remaining options:

  • find a way to change these behaviours,
  • seek additional support in implementing the MESMERIC method, or
  • discontinue MESMERIC and microdosing for addiction, as they are unlikely to provide effective support for addiction recovery under such conditions.

What if…

If these situations arise often, it may mean that MESMERIC and microdosing for addiction are not the right tools for you at this time.

This is not a dead end. Many other approaches exist, and people do overcome addiction through different routes. If this method is not a good fit, explore other options — but do not give up.

At the same time, limitations do not necessarily imply defeat — instead, they may signal the need for a fresh approach.
